Grade Level 4 The Darkness of Smoking                     Part 5

Micheal and Sammy talk about Marty. It makes them both feel better to remember the good times.      "Your father gave me my lucky bat," he tells Micheal. "He told me you were a great player," Micheal says. "He was good too--when he was young. He quit because smoking made it hard to breathe. They talk about smoking and the nicotine in cigarettes. It's the drug that causes addiction.      "I'll never smoke," Sammy says. "And I'll keep playing baseball for Marty." Micheal smiles. He holds up Sammy's drawing. He says he'll take it to the funeral. It will remind everyone of his father. Sammy is sad. Still, he is proud to have made something that will remind people of Marty, a man who brought happiness to others.
